The collision occurred in Greene County around 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, on Route 10 near Sutton Hollow Road in the town of Ashland.

According to Capt. Joel Rowell of the Greene County Sheriff's Office, a preliminary investigation revealed that a US postal vehicle driven by 62-year-old Gina H. Hernandez of East Durham was heading eastbound on Route 10 while a 2008 Lexus RX 350, operated by a 17-year-old male out of Ashland, was heading westbound.

Rowell said at that point, they collided near the center of the road, causing the postal vehicle to overturn.

Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Hernandez, also known as "Gigi," is survived by her daughters, Melanie Frank and Kelsey Miranda, and her cherished grandchildren, Jaxson, Aria, and Mateo, who brought her endless joy.

Her obituary said she also leaves behind her former spouse, Alexis Miranda, who remained a close presence in her life, her devoted siblings, Margie Ladd and Gregory Hernandez, and her dear mother, Marjorie Hernandez.

"Gina was the embodiment of creativity and warmth, bringing a personal touch to everything she did," her obituary said. "Whether through thoughtful gestures or her radiant smile, she made each person feel truly seen and valued. Her presence lit up every room she entered, leaving behind a trail of joy and inspiration.

"Gina had a way of making everyone feel uniquely special as if they were the most important person in the world. Her kindness was as boundless as her imagination. Many have said, "Everyone needs a Gina in their life."'

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m., at St Luke's Episcopal Church, 50 William St, Catskill.

Rowell said an ongoing investigation is being conducted into the cause of the accident.
